Kissing prank makes court laugh in Kim murder trial

SHAH ALAM: A kissing scene in a "prank" show stole the limelight at the trial for the murder of Kim Jong-nam on Tuesday (March 20).

In the video, a Vietnamese freelancer known as Quang Bek on social media, played a game using a toy crocodile head with several women on a street including the second accused Doan Thi Huong.

Doan was seen wearing a short, revealing red dress and sporting brunette hair past her shoulders in the video.

She and Quang Bek (whose real name is Nguyen Manh Quang) kept pressing the teeth of the crocodile until its mouth snapped shut, "biting" Doan’s finger, which meant she had lost the game.

As a reward, Quang Bek was allowed to kiss her on the lips.

However, the kiss lasted longer than expected and the courtroom was then filled with laughter, including from the judge and the accused.

The 5min 42sec video was uploaded to YouTube on May 6, 2016, and was played at the High Court yesterday.

Doan’s defence also tendered a sworn affidavit.

In his affidavit, Quang Bek said he had read an online article titled “Suspect in the Assassination of a North Korean Citizen in Malaysia” and saw Doan’s photo.

“I realised she was the same girl who (had) made two video clips with me. At that point in time, I called her ‘Baby’,” Quang Bek said.

During cross-examination by Doan’s lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, witness Asst Supt Wan Azirul Nizam Che Wan Aziz confirmed that Doan was indeed the woman dressed in red in the video.

Hisyam said, "I say this is one of the reasons she calls herself an actress."

ASP Wan Azirul replied, "I'm not sure."

However, the witness agreed to a suggestion that Quang Bek had given a statement to the Vietnamese police and that he (ASP Wan Azirul) had received the sworn affidavits.

The witness also agreed that Quang Bek was an important witness who could have testified that Doan liked to participate in such videos.

Hisyam: Did you go to Hanoi to track Quang Bek after you received the affidavits?

ASP Wan Azirul: I didn’t.

Hisyam: You didn’t think it was important or that it was a waste of time?

ASP Wan Azirul: Yes, I agree.

Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 26, and Doan, 29, are jointly charged along with four men (still at large) with killing 45-year-old Kim Chol at the KL International Airport 2 on Feb 13, 2017.

Kim Chol was the alias used by Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, whenever he travelled. He died of poisoning by the VX nerve agent.
