FROM the Oscar and the Discus of the 1960s and 1970s to the Arawana and Flower Horn of recent times, various ‘stars’ have taken centre stage in the Malaysian tropical fish arena only to fade into oblivion. A notable exception is the Koi. BAVANI M speaks to a Koi lover-turned-dealer to find out what makes this particular species special.  

THE sight of hundreds of Koi – in a riot of colours ranging from red, white, black and yellow to gold and platinum – moving gracefully and languorously in a crystal-clear pool can certainly take one's breath away. And, strangely, the longer one looks, the more serene and at peace one feels.
