A SHELTER for strays in dire need of funds in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, received a timely boost when a property developer stepped in with a RM30,000 donation.

This is the second time that Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd has come forward to aid Furrykids Safehaven, which is located on a 2.6ha site in Kuala Sawah.

The shelter, which currently houses over 1,980 dogs and puppies as well as a number of cats and kittens, needs between RM90,000 and RM120,000 a month to operate.

Matrix Concepts chief development officer Tan Sze Chee, who presented the donation, said it was part of its corporate social responsibility programme and for the overall community well-being and safety.

“Our first contribution of RM50,000 in 2020 was to assist them to move to a new site from the old one in Mambau.

“We applaud the efforts by FurryKids Safehaven in reducing and controlling the strays as humanely as possible through neutering and vaccination as well as the various adoption programmes,” she said.

FurryKids secretary Anna Robless said the shelter had to be relocated to the higher ground in Kuala Sawah in January 2021 after several flooding incidents which caused the death of its 54 dogs and puppies in late 2020.

“We truly appreciate Matrix Concepts’ contribution as this will ease our operational burden.

“We are also seeking more volunteers and funds to support our efforts,” she said.

Robless said FurryKids hopes to reduce and control the stray population through neutering, vaccination and adoption programmes as well as to educate the public on the responsibility, care and welfare of such animals and the ramifications of abandoning pets.

Furrykids was established in 2017 to rescue and give shelter to injured, abused, abandoned and stray dogs.

Those who wish to assist the shelter can contact its chairperson Jeskiran Kaur Bhat at 016-230 7854. — By SARBAN SINGH
