BENTONG: Raub and Bentong are known as the main producers of Musang King durian today and this might be because one man saw the potential of the king of fruits.

Fruit orchard and Tong Seng nursery owner, Frankie Tong, was among the first to bring the Durian Kunyit seeds from an area in Kelantan.

He then planted them in his orchard in Karak, Bentong, 28 years ago.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who visited Tong’s orchard, recounted his experience there in a Facebook post.

“Durian Kunyit was renamed to Musang King.

“Now, this breed of durian is widely known around the world, especially in China.

“Musang King durian is recognised as the most valuable durian and exported in large quantities.

“Because of Tong’s persistence in bringing the Durian Kunyit seeds to Pahang and former Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai’s efforts in promoting it through China’s national television broadcast, Musang King durian farmers are enjoying lucrative income,” he said.
