Old Navy's first store in Malaysia is located in 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya.

Iconic American casual wear brand Old Navy recently opened its first ever store in Malaysia. The opening day saw a big group of eager customers and fans of the brand checking out items in the shop located at 1Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Here are 6 things you can expect to see and experience while shopping at Old Navy Malaysia.

1. The sales crew will be very friendly to you

In a growing number of fashion retail outlets in Malaysia, sales people (sometimes known as the "crew") assigned to work on the floor are trained not just to greet customers but to try and give everyone a comfortable experience at the shop. The goal is not to get customers to spend more in a single day, but to make them feel satisfied enough to keep returning and recommending the store to others.

If you're a little shy or not in the mood for small talk, however, just let them know with a simple "I'm just browsing, thanks."

2. The store is big

Old Navy stores in the US are usually huge; some are even the size of warehouses! Although the Malaysian outlet is considered small when compared to the ones in the US, it is still a large space.

Don't worry, though, the store is divided into three main sections – Women, Men and Children – and is easy to navigate around. The only complaint is that there are not enough fitting rooms.

3. Items are relatively affordable

In the US, Old Navy is one of the most affordable brands available. In Malaysia, however, its price range is similar to that of brands like Uniqlo, Springfield and Forever 21.

After a quick browse at the store, we found that prices are pretty standard – between RM49 and RM79 for T-shirts; RM99 to RM129 for dresses and blouses; RM129 to RM189 for pants; RM69 to RM139 for sports wear. Also, nothing cost more than RM300 (or at least not in this collection).

4. Lots of neutrals and earth tones

Old Navy is known for its comfortable, everyday wear clothes. So, when it comes to colour, the brand usually sticks to neutrals and earth tones; blue is a prominent colour.

But in almost every collection it presents, the store will also have a handful of items that come in bright colours and bold patterns for those of us who simply love to stand out.

5. There's a size for (almost) everyone

Ah yes, the infamous American sizes for clothes. Although the brand does have clothes that come in sizes much bigger than "extra large" and smaller than "extra small", the Malaysian store currently does not stock them for every product.

Also, not all items will have XL or XS sizes but you might still be able to fit into the size that's closest to what you are. The best, and smartest, option is always to try the clothes on before buying.

6. It sells things other than clothes and shoes

From bags and socks to hats and eyewear, Old Navy sells many cute little things that make great gifts for friends (and yourself). There are also tumblers, umbrellas, beanies, headbands and makeup bags that are conveniently placed all around the store.
