DR Max Gerson stunned the world in 1958 when he claimed he found a cure for cancer. Such revelations would receive the same reaction as they would today – with initial amazement and disbelief. Perhaps even accusations of blasphemy. However, what distanced a relatively unknown Dr Gerson from the quacks and conmen he would usually be associated with was a 30-year documentation of 50 cases. Now, Malaysians can hear about it for themselves when his grandson pays our shores a visit.
Upon being published, Cancer Therapy: A Result Of Fifty Cases proved revolutionary for its time. Gerson prescribed a juice diet exclusively derived from organically-grown vegetable and a regular detoxification through coffee enemas. He even forbade the drinking of water and claimed that many other debilititaing illnesses could be cured from it. It was these and other recommendations which drew criticism and objection from the medical community. His lack of extensive clinical trials and documentation resulted in Dr Gerson being forbidden to practise his method in the US.
