Seaborne drug smuggling via speedboats under investigation as Hong Kong police seize cocaine worth HK$35 million, arrest two

HONG KONG, Dec 12 (SCMP): Hong Kong police are investigating a possible trend of speedboats being used for cross-border drug trafficking after intercepting HK$35 million (US$4.5 million) worth of cocaine – the biggest drug seizure of its kind in five years.

Officers were stationed at Ma Wan Chung pier in Tung Chung on Lantau Island on Tuesday evening after police recently noticed illegal activities at the waterfront. Around 7.30pm, a speedboat carrying four men berthed at the pier, then sped away after a bag and a box were handed over to a man on shore.
