Opposition seeks ‘secession’, says former Hong Kong chief executive

HONG KONG (China Daily/ANN): Hong Kong’s new National Security Law will curb secessionist activity by the local opposition camp, former Hong Kong chief executive Leung Chun-ying said on Sunday (July 12).

Speaking on public broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong’s Letter to Hong Kong programme, Leung referred to conduct by the local opposition camp, including obstruction of the enactment of Article 23 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law in 2003, the “Occupy Central” movement in 2014 and the recent attempt to frustrate passage of the national anthem law, which outlaws insults to China’s national anthem.
