Seven-year-old boy drowns while swimming in adult pool in Puchong

KUALA LUMPUR: A seven-year-old boy has been confirmed dead due to drowning while swimming in a swimming pool at a condominium in Puchong on Monday (Feb 10), Malay news portal Astro Awani reports.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said the police received a report from Sultan Idris Shah Hospital, Serdang, at 2.40pm, after a child was rushed in unconscious.

He said the victim was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.

"It is understood that the child, who was from Kg Beserah, Kuantan, Pahang, was on holiday with his family at their relative's residence in Puchong.

"Investigations found that the victim was swimming with other family members in the children's pool at around 11.30am.

"Unnoticed by his family, the victim had entered the adult pool and was later found drowned," he said in a statement Tuesday (Feb 11).

ACP Norhizam said the post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as drowning.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to 10 years or both, if found guilty.

In addition, the police have also opened a sudden death report (SDR) regarding this incident.
