Fisherman drowns in Sultan Iskandar reservoir

PASIR GUDANG: A 39-year-old fisherman has drowned after falling into the Sultan Iskandar Reservoir here.

Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Saifulbahri Safar said that the incident occurred at 2am on Sunday (Dec 4) when the victim went to check his net.

"The victim had come out to place a fishing net together with another fisherman the night before and went out again around 2am to check their catch.

"The victim did not return, prompting his friend to go looking for him.

"He saw the net had been drawn in but he was nowhere to be found," he said.

The department then deployed 22 personnel to the location, along with two fire trucks, one Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) van, two boats, five MPVs and a drone unit, he added.

The rescue team comprised personnel from the Johor Jaya, Skudai, and Kempas Fire and Rescue Departments.

"The victim's body was found at 6.35pm, about three metres away from where he was reported missing," he said, adding that the body had been handed over to the police for further action.
