High-ranking officer among 7 govt servants remanded over missing GE14 funds

PUTRAJAYA: Seven civil servants, including a high-ranking officer, from the Prime Minister's Department have been remanded in connection with allegation of misappropriation of GE14 funds.

They are from the research division of the Prime Minister's Department.

One of those arrested is a deputy director-general of the division, while the rest are administrative and diplomatic services (PTD) officers in Grades between 44 and 48.

The suspects were arrested at their office, while the senior officer was held at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters.

Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim allowed for the seven to be remanded for five days till Sept 1.

It has not been determined how much money this group has misappropriated, but the amount is believed to be in the millions.

Earlier this month, another group comprising security personnel serving the Prime Minister's Department were remanded for allegedly misappropriating funds totalling RM3.5mil said to be for the polls.

They were said to have taken the money from an office in the Prime Minister's Department.
