GOMBAK: A group of masked men robbed a jewellery shop at a shopping mall in Rawang in front of shocked onlookers.

In a video of the heist uploaded on Facebook by a mall patron, three masked men wearing motorcycle helmets were seen helping themselves to the jewellery on Friday.

One of the men used a hammer to break the display cases while another can be seen holding what is believed to be a gun.

A shocked security guard was also seen at the scene as a voice of a woman is heard urging someone to call the police.

Later, in a separate video, curious mall patrons can be seen clustering around the jewellery outlet, which had since brought down its shutters.

When contacted, Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said two customers and four sales assistants were inside the jewellery shop when the incident happened.

"One of the suspects also shot at the ceiling but thankfully, no one was injured," he said.

Police are now looking for six men suspected of the crime.

"They came in three motorcycles but only three of them were said to have entered the jewellery shop with hammers and a gun," he said, adding that the robbers got away with the loot.

Police are inspecting the CCTV footage of the crime and have yet to ascertain losses incurred.

The case is being investigated for gang robbery, armed robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt, and for discharging a firearm.
