MACC chief: I'm just a civil servant with no interest in politics

KUALA LUMPUR: Anti-graft chief Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad has denied claims that he is seeking political fame and is only doing his part to eradicate corruption and power abuse.

"I'm a civil servant and I want to state here that I'm not interested in politics at all," the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner told reporters during a press conference held at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here Monday.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had questioned if Dzulkifli was aiming to be a politician or celebrity, following his remarks about Opposition-led Penang government's refusal to sign the MACC anti-corruption pledge.

Dzulkifli explained that graft-busting requires public support, which was why he had been "meeting people at many places".

"We want to create a society that hates corruption. What can I do if people are calling me a celebrity?" he said.

Meanwhile, he also urged the public to be whistleblowers on corruption and power abuse.

"We will take action. It's about time for the country to be freed of corruption," said Dzulkifli.
