PUTRAJAYA: The Government is trying to find the best solution to tackle foreign labour issues, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“There is no easy solution to tackle this issue. The Government has to control the population of foreign workers, by at the same time not affecting economic growth,” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department told reporters after the launching of the first Asia Retail and O2O Conference and Expo 2017 here.
“Every sector faces different issues and problems. Foreign labour issues involve several departments too,” he added.
The authorities started detaining illegal foreign workers soon after the deadline for E-card applications, which fell on June 30, 2017.
The Cabinet is sticking to its decision of not extending the E-Card registration deadline for foreign workers.
The decision comes despite appeals from employers for more time to register their undocumented workers.
