PETALING JAYA: Primeworks Studio has issued an apology to former national sprinter Watson Nyambek (pic) after a TV presenter mocked the name of his late father in a comedy programme on Friday.

Its CEO Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar in a statement on its Facebook page on Sunday expressed regret over the incident and apologised to Watson.

"As Chief Executive Officer of Primeworks Studios, the production company of 'Sukan Tak Sentral' programme for TV3 and TV9, I would like to sincerely apologise to Watson Nyambek for the insensitive and inappropriate remarks made during the show regarding his father's name.

"Primeworks Studios has taken steps to remind our staff to be more cautious and sensitive to avoid similar occurrence. We will also review our guidelines and operating procedures to prevent similar incidences from reoccurring. This is a lesson for us to be more sensitive towards our surroundings.

"We deeply respect Watson, his father and family. Watson was our national sprint ace and an athlete who has taken our country to great heights," he said, adding that the TV show host involved has since been suspended.

Watson, who previously held the national 100m sprint record, said he was offended by the presenter's antics.

"I watched that episode and I am offended. I am considering taking legal action," he said to Bernama on Sunday.
