Teen, five others nabbed in attempted murder of priest in Air Itam


GEORGE TOWN: Six people, including a teenager, were detained as part of investigations into Friday night's incident in which a motorcyclist fired three shots in the direction of a house belonging to a priest in Jalan Satu, Air Itam here.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 55, were nabbed in Air Itam and Datuk Keramat areas here.

Northeast District police chief SAC Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the suspects were remanded for a week to facilitate investigations for attempted murder.

In 9.50pm incident, the 50-year-old victim, a            priest at a temple, was washing the compound of his double-storey terrace house when a motorcyclist arrived and fired the shots, .

However, the shots missed hitting the priest who ran into the house and called the police.

At the time, the priest's wife and three children were in the house.

Based on police investigations, the incident is believed to be linked to a resident who suspected the victim of siphoning temple collections. - Bernama
