High jinks on Ipoh lands kids in trouble

IPOH: It isn’t as famous as the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles but enough to lure a group of youngsters to scale a hill here and pose for photographs with the “Ipoh” signboard.

The images went viral on Friday and the Ipoh City Council (MBI), which got wind of it, was not amused.

It issued a statement yesterday cautioning that the sign was off limits for the people’s safety.

“MBI has never allowed anyone to climb the signboard because it could be risky for them to do so,” it said, adding that this was meant to also protect road users of the busy Kuala Kangsar road.

The hill overlooks the Kuala Kangsar road, near the Gunung Lang area.

“The structure is not meant to support extra weight and if any incident happens, it may topple and pose a risk to road users,” MBI said.

An investigation would begin, it said, adding that a police report would be made.
