GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan will seek an audience with the Governor on Friday to request for the setting up of a commission to investigate allegations of corruption in relation to low-cost housing in the state.
State Gerakan anti-corruption and land spokesperson H'ng Khoon Leng said the move was necessary after a video clip surfaced showing Sungai Pinang DAP assemblyman Lim Siew Khim’s father allegedly soliciting bribes to help obtain low-cost housing units for people.
H'ng claimed that there had been a gradual increase in corruption in relation to PPR and low-cost housing in the state since 2009.
He said the issue had "actually worsened drastically".
"So with the latest video on the father of a DAP YB (Lim), what we can see clearly is that the DAP state government will not take any action.
"So Penang Gerakan is of the opinion that we have to seek help from the 'higher up'," he claimed during a press conference at the Penang Gerakan headquarters here today (Aug 30).
H'ng also urged victims of alleged corruption to come forward.
"If they want to go directly to the SPRM (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to provide information, they should go without fear because there is the Whistleblower Protection Act which they can be protected under," he added.
