PETALING JAYA: Former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) will register his new political party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, later Tuesday.
Pro-tem committee member Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman confirmed that the registration documents for the new party, which will be known as Parti Pribumi in short, would be handed in to the Registrar of Societies in Putrajaya at 3.30pm.
It was previously reported that Muhyiddin would submit the registration documents last week, though Syed Saddiq said that there was no real delay.
“There were no discrepancies. We said we’ll hand it in once online and one is the physical documentation, and we said we’re going to do it on Friday or next week.
“So this is just us doing it next week,” he said.
When asked about whether the new political party would be an all Bumiputra party, he confirmed it was a “Bumiputra-based model” but added there were things about the model he could not yet reveal.
“It’s a very interesting model which we’re trying. Just wait for it,” he said.
It is expected that Muhyiddin will take the helm of the new party as its president.
Once registered, the party would be considered a splinter group of Umno as many of its core members are anticipated to be former Umno members.
Last week, Muhyiddin revealed that he had attended a meeting on the new party, which was also attended by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, former Langkawi Umno Wanita member Anina Saadudin, Syed Saddiq, sacked Teluk Kemang Umno branch leader Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman and Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi, the son of Umno veteran Tan Sri Sanusi Junid.
