Suicide attempt fails after woman gets stuck in Klang River mud

Firemen rescuing the woman from her 'muddy' predicament in the Klang River on Monday.

KLANG: A woman who tried to drown herself in a river failed after she got stuck in the mud while walking down the riverside of Klang River.

The 38-year-old woman had been in a bitter row with her family at their home near Jalan Sungai when she decided to end her life following an argument earlier Monday.

It was believed that she walked to the riverside from her home towards the river to commit suicide.

As it was during low tide, the muddy river prevented her from advancing further and she found herself stuck in the mud up to her waist.

Passers-by who saw her raised the alarm and alerted the Kota Raja Fire and Rescue Services Department.

Rescue operation chief Shokry Mohd Nor said that they received a distress call at 11.44am and arrived at the scene moments later.

“A team of five firemen approached the woman and managed to talk her out of her intention to kill herself.

“They managed to pull the woman free from the mud at about 12.20pm. We also helped to get her cleaned up before alerting her family members,” he said.

The woman was later taken to the police station.
