MH370 kin want search to go on

KUALA LUMPUR: It has been two years since MH370 went missing, but families of those on board want the search for the plane to continue.

During a remembrance programme here yesterday, the families said that the search had to continue, as they must find out what went wrong and fix it so that such an incident would never occur again.

“We have suffered losses, we are still going through the motion. It will not end until there is closure which has not come yet,” said Jacquita Gomes whose husband Patrick Francis Gomes was on the Boeing 777 believed to have ended up in the southern Indian Ocean.

“We will fight on to make sure we get the truth of exactly what happened to all of them. We will not give up,” she added.

Chinese national Bai Chuan Fu, 48, who lost his wife Hou Ai Qin said he came to the event to tell the world not to forget about MH370.

“We can get compensation, but what is more important is that we find the truth. I don’t want to give up on this,” he said during a tribute to his wife in Chinese.

The programme saw many songs and several ballet dances being performed as part of the tribute to those on board the plane.

In addition, a petition to continue the search was launched.

The families also released 239 balloons, one to represent every person on board the flight which disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.

Grace Nathan, who organised the event, said she did it out of love for her mother who was on the plane.

“I know it’s difficult but you don’t just give up on someone you love because it’s inconvenient.

“You don’t just forget about them because the world chooses to forget about them,” she said.
