Nurul Izzah: Cooperation with Dr M only if he commits to institutional reforms

PETALING JAYA: The Opposition will only work with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad if he sincerely commits to implementing reforms, says Nurul Izzah Anwar (pic).

The PKR vice president and Lembah Pantai MP was commenting on a news portal report that there would be a press conference involving Dr Mahathir Friday.

"The Opposition and Dr Mahathir only share the same agenda – to remove Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak from power," she added.

"But, this does not absolve Dr Mahathir from all his past abuses of power and wrongdoings, including huge economic miscalculations," said.

The former prime minister had previously called for the formation of a core group of like-minded individuals with the aim of removing Najib.

Dr Mahathir announced on Monday that he was leaving Umno, the second time he has quit the party.

He first quit in May 2008 after reportedly losing confidence in the leadership of then prime minister and Umno president Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

In 2009, he rejoined Umno when Najib became prime minister.
