Liow: No official memorial service for MH370 this year

KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no official memorial service for MH370 this year, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic).

"However, we will hold a ceremony in Parliament on Mar 8, during which the (Dewan Rakyat) Speaker will give a short speech in memory of the tragedy," Liow told reporters after attending a ground-breaking ceremony at Chong Hwa Independent High School on Monday.

Responding to a question as to whether the search for the plane wreckage will continue if it was not found by June this year, Liow said the decision would have to be made in a tripartite meeting among Malaysia, China and Australia then.

Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, left the KL International Airport at 12.41am on March 8, 2014 and disappeared from radar screens about an hour later, while over the South China Sea.

It was due to have arrived in Beijing at 6.30am on the same day.
