Doc wins suit against two Malacca DAP leaders

DAP Chairman of Bukit Pala, Wong Fort Pin urged the churches and the Christian community to stay calm and pray that the authorities will act with wisdom.

MALACCA: A doctor won RM300,000 in damages after he successfully sued two state DAP leaders for defamation.

Dr Wong Fort Pin (pic), who is currently the chairman of the Bukit Palah DAP branch, had sued fellow party leaders because they issued libellous media statements to implicate him in outraging the modesty of his patients and also accused his sibling of being involved in illegal activities.

Sessions Court judge Ahmad Kamar Jamaluddin handed down the judgment on Tuesday and ruled that the statements by Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San, who is also Malacca DAP chairman, had affected Dr Wong’s credibility and integrity.

Dr Wong said he had to sue Sim and Goh because he had to clear his name.

He said the statements attempted to portray him as a pervert who had sexually abused his patients.

“It was like bringing a family tiff out in the open but I had to do it to save my reputation,” he said, adding that he had been a doctor for about 30 years.

Dr Wong said it had been an emotional roller-coaster for him and his family since he filed the suit in May last year through his counsel Wong Fook Meng and Chan Khan Ling.

“It was an uphill task in a suit that I would describe as a ‘David versus Goliath’ battle.

“Many were against me going ahead with the suit,” he said.

Dr Wong said he made several attempts to settle the matter amicably but the defendants refused to respond to his letters appealing to them to correct their earlier statements made to journalists.
