‘Equity Report’ only meant to destabilise DAP, says Karpal

PETALING JAYA: The DAP believes it would not be affected by the emergence of a booklet detailing alleged vote rigging in its party polls.

Dismissing the contents of the booklet as “wild allegations”, DAP chairman Karpal Singh said the book was probably released by those who wanted to destabilise the party.

“I think there are some people who are not happy and are trying to destabilise DAP, as we have come out very strongly in the recent general election,” he said.

“But I don’t think such tactics will work,” he said, referring to a 16-page booklet with the title The Equity Report (CEC Election Fraud) which highlighted alleged vote rigging during the DAP central executive committee election in December last year.

The booklet – supposedly written by one Father Augustus Chen – is said to be available in Malay, English, Tamil and Chinese.

Karpal said the fate of DAP was in the hands of the Registrar of Societies (ROS) which was investigating the alleged polls irregularities.

“Only ROS can make a decision on the party, and not any other third party,” he said.

Claiming that the booklet lacked substance, Karpal said the name of the author did not ring a bell.

“We don’t know who he is. We don’t know if he exists. The booklet is also not attributed to any publisher,” he said, adding that anybody could make any allegation.

Among the discrepancies highlighted is what DAP had called a technical glitch which enabled Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari to jump from 39th position to 20th, thus allowing him to hold an elected central executive committee post in the party.
