Lessons from Hacksaw Ridge

THIS week I went to watch Hacksaw Ridge, which has just been released in Malaysia. It’s a movie I’ve been wanting to watch since it came out late last year and I’m pleased to say it doesn’t disappoint.

It tells the true story of Desmond Doss, an American soldier who took part in one of the bloodiest battles of World War II without firing a shot or even carrying a weapon. A combat medic, he single-handedly saved 75 men in the battle for Hacksaw Ridge on Okinawa in 1945, tending the wounded under fire and evacuating them from behind enemy lines. He became the first conscientious objector to receive a Congressional Medal of Honor, America’s highest military award.
