Showing patriotism the creative way

HEAVY rain did not dampen the spirits of the pupils in SJK (C) Kwang Hwa in Sungai Nibong, Penang, as they waved the Jalur Gemilang proudly.

The pupils from Years Four to Six gathered at the school’s assembly area with the mini flags they put together from cutout templates printed in The Star’s special edition on Friday.

Pentamaster Corporation Berhad had sponsored 2,000 flags to the school under Star Media Group’s Raise the Flag initiative to encourage patriotism and love for the country.

The company’s chairman Chuah Choon Bin said as a leader in providing manufacturing automation solutions and services in the country, it was proud to celebrate Malaysia Day with the younger generation.

“Malaysia is a land of opportunity filled with talented resources and advancement in technologies.

“Skill development should start from the young to engage in new ideas and breakthroughs.

“We hope by instilling creativity via assembling the flags, it will not only spark interest in designing but also instil patriotism among the pupils,” he said.

The company sponsored 9,500 copies of The Star to six schools including SJK (C) Kwang Hwa Sungai Nibong.

Joining in the fun were Pentamaster operations director Hon Tuck Weng, school head Leong Sook Luan and Star Media Group audience management senior manager (North) Oun Sui Leng.

Star Media Group’s Raise the Flag campaign was conceived to strengthen national pride among Malaysians.

It was launched on July 24 until Malaysia Day last Saturday and Malaysians took part in the campaign by using the cutout templates published in The Star to create the Jalur Gemilang.

The campaign’s main sponsor was Aset Kayamas while Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd was the co-sponsor.
