KUALA LUMPUR: Koperasi Tabung Haji Bhd (KTH) expects to record a 20%-25% growth in profit this year, backed by its newly-launched shopping portal, Haqqi.
Chairman Helena Hashim said the country’s first syariah-compliant portal was projected to contribute 40% to the cooperative’s income next year, making it the largest contributor.
“We hope the Haqqi portal would be able to generate the highest profit for the cooperative in two years.
“However, with the strategic marketing plan we have put in place, we expect to achieve the target in just one year,” she told reporters after the launch of Haqqi in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
In 2015, KTH recorded a profit of RM398,643, down from RM608,421 in 2014.
Currently, the cooperative’s income is contributed by credit business (40%), trading (30%) and property (30%).
Helena said Haqqi was targeted to be the largest hub catering to the needs of those performing the haj and umrah, offering quality products at affordable prices.
Haqqi was developed by KTH through a strategic partnership with information technology expert, Glass Go Media Sdn Bhd, and Jakel Warehouse as the main supplier.
It opened its first boutique in Shah Alam offering products such as ‘ihram’ attire, religious books, and guidebooks for the haj and umrah performance, as well as local clothing brands for men, women and children.
Helena said KTH planned to open five more boutiques that were expected to be operational in the first quarter of this year.
It is investing RM1mil each for the new boutiques to be located in Bangi, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Baru, Kuala Terengganu and Johor Baru.
In its long-term plan, Helena said KTH had targeted to open an additional 60 boutiques in five years. - Bernama
