Ministers attend closed-door briefing on 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR: Several ministers attended a closed-door briefing, believed to be on the 1MDB issue, ahead of the Cabinet meeting today.

The session, which was held at a hotel here, started at 8.30pm and was attended by at least 11 ministers.

Prime Minster Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was at the same hotel for a meeting with a new non-governmental organisation, Christians for Peace and Harmony Malaysia.

The ministers at the briefing were Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Husni Hanadzlah, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala and Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusuf.

Also there were Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Karim, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who returned after a short holiday in Australia last night, did not attend the briefing.

The Deputy Prime Minister was met by about 100 supporters after his flight touched down at the KL International Airport at about 9pm.

He was whisked off as reporters threw him questions related to Najib’s reported ultimatum to ministers opposing 1MDB at last Friday’s Cabinet meeting.

Najib had reportedly told Cabinet members to either “stand with him or resign”.
