Wan Azizah frets over how GST will be spent

KUALA LUMPUR: The Opposition Leader says she is worried on how revenue from Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be spent just as the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) was unveiled.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said there were only five years left before 2020, which would be the end of 11MP.

“Under the 10th Malaysia Plan, it was stated that 1MDB would benefit the people and bring impact value, but for whom? Look at how it is now.

“How will the GST income be spent?” the Permatang Pauh MP told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

In tabling the 11MP, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the Government would ensure that the GST collected would be re-channelled to the people.

Dr Wan Azizah said she was also concerned about the widening gap between the rich and poor.

She said Pakatan Rakyat would study the proposals made in the 11MP and come up with suggestions during the debate stage.

Reminding that the principles of inclusiveness and transparency must be upheld always, Dr Wan Azizah said all eyes should be on graft, leakage and wastage.

“This is the final leap to 2020 and it needs to be a final sprint. Malaysia should expand its democracy, and not narrow it, so that everybody can reach the finish line – Vision 2020,’’ she added.
