KUALA LUMPUR: A seven-month-old infant and her parents died after their vehicle overturned several times when it was rammed by a speeding vehicle on the Duke Highway.
The impact of the crash caused the three of them to be thrown out of their Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, died on the spot in the tragedy at 1.05am yesterday.
His wife Nova Safitri Azhari, 27, and daughter Nur Firuza Annisa suffered severe injuries and died at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The family had earlier attended a relative’s wedding in Putrajaya when they were hit by a Myvi, which was believed to be speeding.
“Their vehicle overturned a few times,” said Kuala Lumpur Staff Officer for Traffic Investigation and Regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam.
Investigations revealed that the collision occurred when their car was struck on the rear when they were trying to merge into the fast lane.
Apparently, Fairuz lost control of his Pajero before swerving to the left lane and crashing into another MyVi.
He said that the 31-year-old driver of the speeding MyVi was uninjured and that police had arrested him and taken urine samples from him.
The other driver suffered a minor injury.
There were people who saw several MyVi cars racing on the road before the collision took place.
When met at the mortuary, Fairuz’s brother, who only wanted to be identified as Hamlizar, 43, said the family was stunned by the tragic event.
“We were told by police that my brother’s car was hit by two MyVis – one from the left lane and the other from the right.
“We still need some time to digest the news. My brother’s two other daughters have been informed of their parents’ death.”
He said the couple, married for eight years, had dropped the other two girls, Nur Firuza Amira, seven, and Nur Firuza Akila, three, at their grandparents house in Putrajaya before returning home in Taman Batu Muda, Gombak.
