Govt to raise basic salary of Grade 11 staff

PUTRAJAYA: A new basic salary for the 3,072 civil servants currently earning between RM823 and RM850 in Grade 11 will be announced by the end of the year.

“The Government is aware of those with low minimum salary and is planning to give them a salary increase.

“It is expected to make a public announcement by the end of this year,” Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal told reporters here yesterday.

Those in this grade – the lowest in the public service – comprise staff who joined with PMR qualification, he said.

They include general office assistants, operations assistants and drivers, whose total take-home salary and allowances amount to between RM1,257 and RM1,275 each month.

Mohamad Zabidi said this was the fourth review for Grade 11 since their basic salaries were gradually increased from RM480 in 2002 to RM832 in 2013.

Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda had reportedly said there were 400,000 civil servants in the country whose monthly salaries were as low as RM805.

However, the department clarified in a statement that there were only 3,072 civil servants whose salary was less than RM850.

The Government, said Mohamad Zabidi, would also announce a review of 252 salary schemes and allowances for civil servants by the end of the year. — Bernama
