KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspected ‘Gang 21’ members involved in the November abduction and murder of a Myanmar businessman, have been arrested in Singapore.
The men were picked up on December 3, in separate locations by Singaporean police acting on information by their Malaysian counterparts, said Sentul OCPD ACP R. Munusamy.
This comes after the mastermind of the alleged abduction cum murder was arrested in Nov 20 at the Banting Hospital.
“We are still looking for one more suspect. We have narrowed down the motive of the crime to either a dispute in drug distribution activities or an act of revenge.
“Evidence points to the revenge motive being the most likely,” he told reporters Monday.
On Nov 12, a 30-year-old Indian-Myanmar businessman was abducted by armed Gang 21 members, in full view of his family in Pusat Bandar Sentul Utara.
By Dec 1, police picked up the mastermind of the crime - who later let officers to a forest near a sand factory in Bidor, Perak where authorities found the remains of the victim with his neck slashed.
ACP Munusamy believed suspects killed the man as an act of revenge for his involvement in the killing of one of the suspect’s brother last month.
He added that prior to the incident, the businessman had survived an attempt on his life five or six months ago.
“We believe that the businessman was involved in drug dealings. He was not a gang member, but he had affiliations with gangs.
“Drug rivalry could have prompted the attempted murder,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
