Sikh movement stages charity walk across Sabah and S’wak

MIRI: It will be a thrilling adventure across Sabah and Sarawak on foot – all for the sake of charity.

The Malaysian National Sikhs Movement has embarked on a pioneering six-month long, 2,500km walk to raise funds for underprivileged children in the remote corners of Sabah and Sarawak.

The money raised will be used to repair schools and villages.

Two professional walkers – David Atthowe from Britain and Yusep Sukmana from Indonesia – have been enlisted to take on the project.

Malaysian National Sikhs Movement’s secretary-general Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill flagged off the event in Tawau, Sabah, in the last week of August.

“The two will spend at least two months travelling the remote areas of Sabah before crossing into Sarawak, where their endeavour is expected to last four months,” he said.

During the various stops along the routes, artistes from the band Goldkartz will entertain the villagers with songs and dances.

The Sikh movement, with its headquarters in Ipoh, has teamed up with Goldkartz as well as a London-based NGO called Nomadic Lion and US-based Sikh organisation called United Sikhs for the project.
