Two youths killed in crash while racing in their Evo

JOHOR BARU: Two youths were killed as they raced against each other in two high performance Mitsubishi Evo cars on the southbound of the North-South Expressway some 2km from here.

Two of their teenage friends were seriously injured in the 2.10am incident on Sunday.

South Johor Baru district police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said the 25-year-old driver of one of the cars and his 18-year-old front seat passenger died on the spot.

"The incident is believed to have occurred as a result of 'speeding' competition between two Mutsibishi Evo cars - one blue and the other yellow.

The blue Evo had four youths in it and the yellow Evo was driven by a man," he said.

ACP Sulaiman said the driver of the blue Evo lost control and hit the yellow Evo and a Proton Waja which was on the left lane. 

The blue Evo car split into two upon impact killing the driver and passenger instantly.

The two rear seat passengers in the car, aged 16 and 18, were seriously injured, whereas, the driver of the yellow Evo sustained minor injuries and the driver of the Proton Waja escaped unhurt.

The bodies were taken to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital here for post-mortem and the injured were sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital.
