PETALING JAYA: Three engineers tasked with supervising an MRT site at Sungai Buloh that saw the deaths of three Bangladeshi workers last week, have tendered their resignations.
The three are, project engineer Ismail Hassan, senior resident engineer David Douglas and resident engineer Norrizan Ismail, resigned on Aug 22, three days after the incident.
This was disclosed in a statement by the project delivery partner (PDP) for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line, MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd Tuesday.
MMC-Gamuda KVMRT said Ian Thoms, the PDP project director, has also decided he would not seek an extension for his contract of service.
Douglas and Norrizan are employees of AECOM, the supervising consultant for the V1 package that covered the Sungai Buloh work site.
On Aug 19, a concrete span weighing 690 tonnes collapsed and killed the Bangladeshis in what is the MRT project’s worst ever accident to date.
MMC-Gamuda KVMRT said it would call a press conference later this week to elaborate on the matter.
In another statement MRT Corp said it is not ready to accept the resignation of its CEO, Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid, who had said a day after the incident that he was quitting to take responsibility for the matter.
