Suspect shot, another surrenders hours after Puchong robbery

PETALING JAYA: A robbery suspect was shot as he tried to ram into policemen in Bukit Jalil on Thursday, forcing his accomplice to surrender.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Razak Elias said police had been after the duo following a robbery at a double-storey terrace house in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong at 7.45am.

He said two men, in their 20s, forced their way into the master bedroom and woke up the 46-year-old owner from her sleep. The woman was alone as her husband was at work and child at school.

ACP Abdul Razak said the men threatened the woman with a knife and later ransacked the room, taking away handphones, money, jewellery and branded goods. They escaped in the owner's Volkswagen Beetle. The stolen loot amounted to more than RM200,000.

ACP Abdul Razak said a neighbour earlier saw the suspects parking a tinted Mercedes-Benz in front of the victim’s house, without suspecting anything.

“We watched the neighbour’s closed circuit television (CCTV) recording to identify the suspects.

“A team was then formed to track down the criminals,” he added.

Acting on information gathered from witnesses and the video recording, the Serdang police alerted the other police districts.

At 2.15pm, the two men were spotted in the Mercedes and Volkswagen cars in Vista Komanwel C, Bukit Jalil.

When they were asked to stop and surrender, the man driving the Volkswagen Beetle tried to ram into the police, said ACP Abdul Razak.

Police opened fire at the vehicle and the driver was hit in the shoulder. The Volkwagen crashed into another car and came to a halt.

ACP Abdul Razak said the other suspect, who was driving the Mercedes-Benz that was reported stolen in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, surrendered to the police.

He said police have classified the case as attempted murder.
