Verses of hope and consolation for those on MH370

KOTA KINABALU: Sixty-eight poets across the country and from Indonesia have strung together a collection of poems in Malay to voice their hope over the fate of the 239 on board Flight MH370.

The poems were compiled in just two days via the Facebook account of Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Arif.

Mohd Arifin, who also contributed two pieces touching on the mystery of the missing plane, Hijab Rahsia MH370 and Tak Setitis Tahuku, said the effort was to show appreciation to all those involved in the search and rescue operation as well as to console the family members concerned.

“Besides prayers from people around the globe, we hope this effort would help ease the pains of those who are waiting for their loved ones to return,” Mohd Arifin said to reporters during an event here on Tuesday.

About 500 copies of the collection of poems have been published by the local literature groups Ikatan Penulis Sabah and Badan Bahasa dan Sastera Sabah for free distribution to interested members of the public.

Mohd Arifin said poems were still coming in even after the book had been published.

“We might compile the newer ones and publish a second edition,” he added.
