IPOH: Choi Tat Sang did not know how to break the news to his teenage granddaughter – that her mother, chief stewardess Goh Sock Lay (pic), was on board the ill-fated flight MH370.
Choi, 74, was hoping to get verified news about what was actually happening before breaking the news to his granddaughter who lives with him and his wife.
Eventually, his brother informed the 14-year-old girl about the matter, and she became sad and had been crying non-stop.
“It is heartbreaking to see my granddaughter going through the ordeal. I am really sad and my heart aches.
“My son rushed to Kuala Lumpur after we received the news from the authorities at 8am on Saturday,” he said at his shop which sells prayer paraphernalia at Kampung Tawas near here yesterday. His son Loong Chow, 48, is a supervisor at a glove factory here.
“I am hoping for a miracle to happen, but somehow I know the chances of a miracle are really slim,” he added.
Bercham assemblyman Cheong Chee Khing and Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran paid a visit to the family.
Meanwhile, the mother of passenger Tan Ah Meng (pic), 46, said she had been sitting in front of the television to get the latest updates of the missing aircraft.
Lai Chew Lai, 84 said Tan, a civil engineer was her favourite son because he was the youngest of eight siblings.
Her son was on board the flight with his wife Chuang Hsiu Leng, 48, a Taiwanese, and their eldest son Tan Wei Chen, 19.
The couple has two other boys who are staying with relatives.
