Welfare Dept updating Swedish counterparts on well-being of kids

KUCHING: Swedish authorities are being updated on the well-being of the four children whose parents are currently on trial in Sweden for abuse charges.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Karim said the Malaysian Welfare Department had been providing weekly reports to the Sweden Social Services to keep authorities there informed of all four children’s well-being, as required.

"So far, we have sent out four reports through Wisma Putra," she told reporters here after chairing a state-level meeting on her Ministry at the State Legislative Assembly Building.

She said the children have slowly adapted to their new environment and were settling well in school too.

Aside from monitoring how they were getting along, the Department also provides counselling to ensure they are doing fine emotionally too.

Aisyah Azizul Raheem, 15, and her brothers Ammar, 13, Adam, 12, and Arif, 8, are currently attending school in Kota Baru while their parents, Azizul Raheem Awalluddin and Shalwati Nurshal, are on trial in Sweden for child abuse.
