KUALA LUMPUR: Visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been conferred an honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Management degree by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
It was in recognition of his contributions and leadership of Turkey and the Muslim ummah, as well as contributions to human capital development for democracy, human rights and freedom, and friendly humanitarian approaches to solving problems.
The special convocation was held at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation here in conjunction with the Turkish leader’s two-day visit to Malaysia.
He received his scroll from the university’s president, Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.
Erdogan, 59, said the award was meaningful as it served as a symbol of multi-dimensional cooperation between Turkey and Malaysia.
He said he also felt honoured that the university had given an opportunity to Turkish nationals to advance in their learning programmes.
