Allah issue: Wait for court decision, says Jamil Khir

PETALING JAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom has urged all parties to wait for the Federal Court's decision on the usage of the word Allah.

"I feel we must uphold the Federal Constitution and the country's law and wait for the Federal Court's decision.

"This is because the matter could create conflict and touch on the sensitivities of the various religions," he told a press conference after launching Tabung Haji 6th Corporate Directors Seminar 50th Anniversary at its Kelana Jaya headquarter's on Thursday.

It was reported that the Catholic weekly The Herald would not give up its bid to use the word Allah in its Bahasa Malaysia version and plans to appeal the decision at the Federal Court.

Jamil Khir also noted that Jakim has no power to interfere any religious matters as it falls under the purview of the respective state government and the power of the Sultans and Rulers.
