ASCONA, Italy (Reuters) - World Cup winners Germany were without stalwarts Mats Hummels and Bastian Schweinsteiger as they began preparing on Wednesday for Euro 2016 but coach Joachim Loew was confident both would be fit for the finals.

Central defender Hummels picked up a calf muscle injury in Borussia Dortmund's German Cup final defeat by Bayern Munich on Saturday.
