Clean up, stop littering


IT is alarming to read the latest figures on dengue, “A week into 2016, 1000 extra cases” (The Star, Jan 12), and the forecast that this situation is only going to get worse due to weather conditions.

The Health Ministry has rightly spelt out the integrated measures that need to be taken by the respective ministries, departments and agencies to step up activities to contain the spread of the disease. The measures include searching and destroying all mosquito breeding areas, effective garbage collection, enforcement against illegal garbage dumping, larvaciding to be done in high-risk areas, and continuous monitoring of construction sites.
