Residents shaken as another mysterious boom hits Ipoh

IPOH: Residents claim to have heard a booming sound and felt the ground shaking in parts of the district here.

Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they are investigating the matter.

"Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin will issue an official statement if there is any confirmed information or report regarding the incident," he said on Wednesday (June 18).

Mohammad Danial Nordin, 36, a resident of Klebang Harmoni, said he was at home when he heard a loud sound like an explosion.

"It sounded like someone slamming a door very hard and there was shaking at the same time. It was really mysterious because the sound was very loud," he said.

According to social media, users claimed tremors were felt in several areas including Chemor, Chepor and Tanah Hitam at around 10.30am.

On Oct 21, 2024, a strong tremor was reported in several parts of the city, including Tasek, Perak Stadium, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, Chemor and Sungai Siput, at around 11am, followed by a loud boom.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay had said its source remained a mystery and that police were conducting a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, the Perak Minerals and Geoscience Department said the sounds were not caused by blasting at quarries.

Its director Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim, said such activities are only permitted from noon to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays.

"The tremors are said to have occurred at about 10.30am. Checks show that there was no quarry blasting activity at that time," he said. – Bernama
