Four escape unscathed as car catches fire in Sibu

SIBU: Four members of a recovery MCO enforcement team managed to get out of a car before it caught fire on Monday (Dec 28) night here.

Sibu deputy OCPD Supt Collin Babat said the car, which was driven by a policeman at the junction of Jalan Sungai Assan and Jalan Paradom suddenly started emitting thick smoke from the engine compartment.

Three other people were in the car, including a Rela member, a soldier and a civil defence force personnel during the 8.45pm incident.

"The team was on recovery MCO enforcement duty in the area when the driver, a corporal, saw smoke coming out from the engine.

"All of them quickly rushed out from the car which was later destroyed by the fire," he said.

The blaze had destroyed the car by the time eight firemen managed to douse the flames.
