Boy, 14, missing in lake found drowned

MIRI: A 14-year-old boy who went missing while swimming with friends in a man-made lake in a remote plantation in Sri Aman district in southern Sarawak, has been found drowned.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department search teams and divers found him in the lake in Stumbin Plantation located about 200km north of Kuching.

The department, in its latest update Wednesday (June 10), said the body was found at about 3pm on Wednesday (June 10).

The body has been taken to his village.

This was after a day of search efforts on the surface and banks of the lake and inside the waters.

The boy from Rumah Suyung longhouse went missing at about 5pm on Tuesday (June 9) while playing in the waters with a group of friends, said the department.

The boy has been identified as Vensen Albis.

Aside from Fire and Rescue searchers and divers, the police, Civil Defence Unit and also villagers carried out searches in the vicinity.

After the boy went missing in the lake, his friends alerted their families, who in turn called the authorities for help.

An initial search was carried out Tuesday evening, but was postponed after it got dark.
