Palm-oil tanker overturns along Pan Borneo Highway

MIRI: A lorry carrying approximately 10,000 litres of palm oil crashed and overturned, causing an oil spill along the Miri-Bintulu Pan Borneo Coastal Highway on Tuesday (April 28) night.

The incident happened at the Samalaju Industrial Estate, which is located about 100km south of Miri.

In a statement on Wednesday (April 29), the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that the spill was contained at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

"Fire and Rescue personnel from the Samalaju station used foam to contain the oil spill, which covered about 50 metres of the highway after the tanker overturned and crashed into the drain at the side of the road, ” it said.

The Department added that the spill was contained after the tanker was shifted away from the crash site using a crane and said that no injuries were reported.
