Man drowns during family outing at Desaru beach


JOHOR BARU: A 44-year-old man drowned during a family outing at Pantai Tanjung Balau in Desaru near here on Wednesday (June 5).

Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue station operations chief Abd Rahim Abd Rani said they received a call that a man had gone missing at about 1.30pm on Wednesday (June 5).

"The victim's body was brought to the shore by others who were in the area.

"We managed to rescue two other family members," he said in a statement released here on Wednesday (June 5).

He added that the deceased, R. Ramesh, was pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene and his body was sent to the police for further investigation.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Ashmon Bajah confirmed the case.

"We received a report at about 1.30pm and the case has been classified as sudden death," he said.
