MERSING: An elderly couple have been found dead in their home along Jalan Kenari at Felda Tenggaroh 3 near Jemaluang here after police investigated a complaint from the public about a stench.
Mersing OCPD Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said police found the bodies of the 72-year-old husband and his 70-year-old wife after breaking into the house at around 11.50pm on Wednesday (Aug 15).
“Earlier, we received a call from the public at around 11.05pm notifying us about a foul odour coming from the couple’s house.
“Police arrived at the scene at around 11.50pm. We tried calling the houseowner, but nobody answered. My men then broke into the house, and we found the couple lying motionless," he said when contacted here on Thursday (Aug 16).
He added that the wife's body was found on a bed, while her husband's was on the floor.
Supt Cyril said that initial investigations found no criminal elements in the couple’s death, but investigations were ongoing.
He added that the bodies had been sent to Mersing Hospital for a post-mortem and the case was classified as sudden death pending the post-mortem result.
